Our Leadership
Sandra MacGillivray
Sandra founded Valency in 2013 and is Valency’s Managing Director. Serving as a member of CII research teams, including PDRI, front end planning, risk management and portfolio management, she brings a wealth of knowledge on the capital project life cycle and project assurance best practices. Sandra is a Certified PDRI Facilitator, Project Management Professional (PMP) and Risk Management Professional (PMI-RMP). She holds a Bachelor of Science (University of Waterloo), an MBA (Wilfrid Laurier University).
David Mills
David brings extensive experience in Commissioning, Operations, Project and Program Management across several industries. Throughout his career, David has delivered proven results through process optimization and continuous improvement. He is a Certified PDRI Facilitator, Project Management Professional (PMP), and holds a Bachelor of Technology (Memorial University) and an MBA (Royal Roads University).
Eve Martin
Eve works closely with our clients and facilitators providing co-facilitation, training, and customer support. Her experience spans the entire Carve Project Assurance solution. Eve serves on CII’s Deployment Committee to promote the use of CII practices. She is a Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) and holds a Bachelor of Knowledge Integration (University of Waterloo).

Tim Podesta
UK
Tim Podesta is a Certified PDRI Facilitator and instructor on front end planning and PDRI for Valency. He brings over 30 years of experience in the Oil & Gas, petrochemical and renewal energy industry to Valency. Tim is a past team member with multiple CII research projects. He holds an MA in Engineering (Cambridge University) and an MBA (Warwick Business School).
Nell van Walsum
Canada
Nell van Walsum is a Certified PDRI Facilitator and instructor on PDRI, Risk Management and Facilitation Skills for Valency. She delivers services in both English and French. Nell brings over 30 years of leadership experience to Valency from her career in environmental consulting. She holds a B.A in Geology and a M.Sc. in Earth Sciences from the University of Waterloo.
Valerie Weaver
USA
Valerie Weaver is a Certified PDRI Facilitator and advisor in project assurance best practices for Valency. In 2018, Valerie and her team received the CII Implementation Award for tremendous business advancement through implementation of CII best practices. She brings over 30 years of project assurance, operations and engineering experience to Valency. Valerie holds a B.Sc in Chemical Engineering from the University of California and is a Professional Engineer.
John Zhao
Canada
John Zhao is a Senior Risk Consultant and advisor in Construction Readiness for Valency. He is an internationally recognized leader in quantitative risk analysis (QRA) for industrial projects with over 30 years of diverse construction industry experience. John holds an M.Sc. in Project Management and a B.Sc. in Building Design & Management from Northumbria University (UK).
Raul Fuentes
Chile
Raul Fuentes is a Senior Risk Consultant and Certified PDRI Facilitator for Valency. He delivers services in both Spanish and English. Raul is a recognized expert in quantitative risk analysis (QRA) for the mining industry, with over 40 years of experience in senior leadership roles for capital project delivery, operations, and risk management. He holds a Bachelor of Civil Metallurgist Engineering (Universidad de Santiago) and a Chile) and a Master’s in Marketing & Commercial Management (ESEM, Spain)
Pete Luan
USA
Pete Luan is a Certified PDRI Facilitator and advisor in Construction Readiness and Commissioning & Operational Readiness. He brings over 30 years of capital project experience in the energy industry to Valency, having led development projects in the USA, Latin America, Middle East and the former Soviet Union. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a Masters in Mechanical Engineering from Rice University.
