PDRI, or the project definition rating index, for small industrial projects is the first open industry standard for scope definition in both small process and non-process projects. Small projects make up 70% of all projects in the process industry, and they have traditionally not placed much emphasis or importance on front end planning. This is due to the false belief of small projects being less risky than large projects, and that budget plays a lesser role in small projects. PDRI is applied before the concept phase and before the design, procurement, and construction phase in the life cycle of a small project. The benefits of PDRI for small industrial projects include a 16% reduction in cost, a 15% reduction in schedule, and a 3% reduction in change orders.
